Good news, everyone!
Today we celebrate the fifth anniversary of Untrusted: on January 29th, 2021, Untrusted was released on Steam in early access.
I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who kept playing during these years: I’m glad to see many of you that still enjoy playing after hundreds (if not thousands!) of played matches!
So, what’s new?
Hackers at Large is now available on Steam!
The single player prequel to untrusted is now available for purchase! Get it on Steam now with the launch discount! -> https://store.steampowered.com/app/2508150/
In Hackers at Large you’ll meet new characters as well as some you may have encountered before. Use #prequel-general for discussion on the Discord server, but please do not post spoilers or make sure to mark it as spoiler using the ||spoiler discord syntax||!
The whole discord (and in untrusted in-game!) has to be considered spoiler-free so that everyone has a chance to enjoy U:HaL without worrying about spoilers: if you’d like to discuss spoilers, you can indeed in #prequel-spoilers or use the relevant chapter-specific spoilers channels.
As a single player Hacking RPG, Hackers at Large is a very different genre from the social deduction gameplay of the original untrusted: even so, I hope you’ll try the demo at the very least even if it’s not your cup of tea, and hopefully you will like this game too!
Hackers at Large is a difficult game which should bring you at least 6-10 hours of gameplay at normal difficulty (possibly more, depending on how much you like to explore and experiment). There are three difficulty levels: note that if you played the most recent demo build, you’ll be able to continue from where you left off although the demo save file is tuned for the ‘normal’ difficulty level (Blackhat). Consider restarting the game instead of clicking ‘continue’ if you wish for an easier or harder experience.
I’d like to express my thanks, again, to everyone who supported the development of Untrusted and Untrusted: Hackers at large in any way over the past years.
A special mention to AceMan who made the amazing in-game original soundtrack and another special mention to Rogo & Biancalisa, authors of the ending sequence song. Make sure to visit their websites, where you can listen to the OST or purchase it directly. You can find AceMan and RoGo/Biancalisa‘s bio and links in the dedicated web page: https://www.hackersatlarge.com/ost/
Please consider leaving a review (positive or negative: be honest and unbiased!)!
If you have a social media presence, please also consider linking the game steam page or the game trailer if you are active in a gaming-related community!
I hope you’ll enjoy “Untrusted – Hackers at Large”!
Season 10
Season 10 starts today, with the usual stats reset, and today patch 1.200 (the anniversary patch!) goes live!
Untrusted’s a very atypical game from what’s popular in the mainstream gaming sphere, and seeing that many of you still enjoy it after many hours, always makes me happy. Thank you for all your continued support and I hope you’ll continue enjoying untrusted!
Version 1.200 should be automatically downloaded for you via steam: if not, simply restart steam or run the file consistency check.
Season 10 comes with the usual seasonal stats reset, but sees no gameplay changes. This patch comes with some very minor fixes (e.g. mail sfx not playing correctly in the tutorial) but most importantly, comes with 6 experimental new languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian and Chinese. Unfortunately the font I chose does not support perfectly all characters of some of these languages and there will be some visual inconsistencies: sorry about that!
Let me stress out again these new languages are to be considered experimental – they could benefit from a second translation pass (and I might ask you, the community, for help in the future). As there is an advertisement campaign running right now also for the original untrusted, this is a good chance to bolster the community with new players: Untrusted is free to keep on Steam for the next 72h: tell your friends and post on your socials about it!.
I’ve targeted the most promising languages, but given the difficulty in maintaining a particular localized community (not to mention, the moderation additional workload and difficulty due to language barriers) the future of these translations is still to be decided. Please resist the urge to meme in-game with the new languages as that can be annoying (especially to new players) and disrupt the flow of the game. Moderation already has its usual workload to deal with, don’t add more. Whether these new languages will remain available or not in the future, depend on a variety of factors.
